Albino Jackals at Tamboti Bush Lodge

Snow white or albino Jackals are prevalent at Tamboti Bush Lodge. There appear to be albino genes in the family of jackals living on Tamboti.  In October 2006 Pixie first saw two snow white jackal’s pups whilst walking in the veld.  We saw them on the farm for about a month before they disappeared.  Albino animals are prone to early predation as they stand out easily in the veld.  In early December 2008 Johan Engelbrecht, a neighbour first spotted an almost fully grown white pup on the road behind Tamboti.  The following weekend with the aid of one of our guests we took some amazing photos of the white jackal (see gallery). We saw this jackal and its 3 siblings continuously at Tamboti for most of 2009 and then it too disappeared.  On Tamboti we have made a new trail for game viewing to specifically be able to watch for new young albino jackals this coming breeding season.
